Our team investigates how endothelial cells regulate alloreactive immune responses after ASCT. Building on our discovery that endothelial activation and antigen presentation drive GvHD pathology, we will define the roles of endothelial cell receptors, including VEGFR1, MHC-II, and immune checkpoints, in regulating T-cell priming. Our long-term goal is to target endothelial pathways to reduce GvHD.

Professor Zernecke-Madsen and her team focus on immunological mechanisms that drive inflammation and tissue remodeling in the vascular system and the heart, with a particular focus on the role of immune cells in this context.
