Our research team is developing biologics that target the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) receptor 2 (TNFR2) to activate or eliminate regulatory T cells (Tregs) in a context-dependent manner during graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) and graft-versus-leukemia (GvL) reactions. Building on previously engineered nanobody-based TNFR2 agonists that protect against GvHD, the team of Professor Wajant and Dr. Lang is now investigating second-generation variants of these biologics in preclinical models that additionally stimulate GvL effects.
I am a molecular biologist and group leader with extensive experience in the tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-receptor superfamily. During my PhD, I specialized in the activation mechanisms of these receptors and their ligand interactions. Building on this expertise, my current research focuses on engineering novel, multifunctional nanobody-based fusion proteins as targeted therapeutics for members of the TNF-receptor superfamily.
Within the Collaborative Research Centre/Transregio (CRC/TRR) 221 innovative immune modulation strategies will be investigated to separate GvHD from GvL effects in order to enhance the safety and efficacy of allo-HSCT in the future.
