At CRC TRR 221, we strongly support these values. On this occasion, we particularly recognize and celebrate the dedication, expertise, and perseverance of the women scientists who have contributed to our collaborative mission to improve the efficacy and safety of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation— both those who have been part of CRC TRR 221 in the past and those who have recently joined our community. Their work continues to advance scientific understanding, drive innovation, and strengthen our shared mission to improve patient outcomes.
“Being a woman in science means not only contributing to research but also helping to open doors for the next generation. Representation helps ensure that science reflects the diversity of the society it serves”, reflects Dr. Mercedes Gomez de Agüero Tamargo, Junior group leader at the Institute for Systems Immunology (Max-Planck Research Group and Julius-Maximilians-University Würzburg).
While today provides an important moment of recognition, our commitment extends far beyond a single day. We remain dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive research environment and to valuing the contributions of women in science throughout the year — within our consortium and across the global scientific community.
“Diversity in science is not only about fairness — it is a driver of creativity, innovation, and better research”, says Professor Herr, CRC TRR 221 Spokesperson.
We hope that the achievements and leadership of women scientists will continue to inspire more women and girls to pursue careers in scientific fields and to help shape the future of research.
Within the Collaborative Research Centre/Transregio (CRC/TRR) 221 innovative immune modulation strategies will be investigated to separate GvHD from GvL effects in order to enhance the safety and efficacy of allo-HSCT in the future.
