Since its inception in 1999, the Leukemia Run has gained tremendous popularity, now attracting around 3,500 participants while maintaining its familiar, relaxed, and inclusive atmosphere.
The CRC TRR 221 scientists’ strong commitment to fighting leukemia extends beyond their tireless daily work as researchers and medical doctors, dedicated to improving existing therapies and developing new treatments. Their participation in the Leukemia Run reflects their broader effort to raise public awareness about the disease, support patients, and help generate funds for their treatment through the outstanding work of Leukämiehilfe Ostbayern e.V., the event’s organizer.
Leukämiehilfe Ostbayern e.V. is a non-profit organization founded in 2000 by physicians, dedicated volunteers, and self-help groups. Its mission is to support leukemia patients and their families, improve treatment options, and promote stem cell donation.
Within the Collaborative Research Centre/Transregio (CRC/TRR) 221 innovative immune modulation strategies will be investigated to separate GvHD from GvL effects in order to enhance the safety and efficacy of allo-HSCT in the future.
